Your Landscape Plan Is a Permit Condition

On a Surrey commercial, industrial or institutional site, the landscaping is not the decorative step at the end. The City requires a landscaping plan for commercial, industrial, institutional and multi family sites, and the approved cost estimate sets a security that the City holds, as cash or a letter of credit, until the planting is in and approved against that plan.

That changes what maintenance is for in the first season. Plant that dies before the City signs off is a deficiency, and a deficiency is what keeps the file open. Watering through the first dry spell, replacing what failed and keeping the beds to the drawing are the things that close it.

Surrey has been revising how these securities are calculated during 2026, so the amounts and the release steps are worth confirming with the City for your own file, rather than taking them from any contractor website, including ours.

A New Site Is Not an Established Site

Surrey keeps building, so a great deal of commercial planting here is young. Young planting fails differently from mature planting, and it fails faster.

The list was drawn for a drawing

A landscape architect picks species to satisfy a plan and a permit. Some of what gets specified wants more water than the site will ever get once the hose is coiled up.

The first two summers decide it

New planting has no root system to fall back on. Missing one dry stretch in the first season can cost you a whole shrub row, and it is the row that faces the street.

A warranty is not maintenance

An installer warranty replaces what died. It does not water, weed or prune, and those are the jobs that stop things dying in the first place.

Commercial Grounds Across Surrey

Surrey is not one commercial district, and the grounds are not one job. What a site needs depends on whether it fronts a sidewalk, a parking field or a truck yard.

WhereWhat the grounds are like
City Centre and WhalleyOffice and mixed use frontage around King George. Tight sites, public sidewalk edges, and planting that has to read well at street level.
Guildford and FleetwoodRetail frontage and older business blocks. Parking islands, hedge screens and a great deal of edge work.
NewtonBusiness park and light industrial. Larger parcels, long hedge runs, and yard areas where planting takes a beating.
CloverdaleLight industrial with room around it, plus the older commercial streets.
South Surrey and Campbell HeightsNewer business park space. Much of it recently built, so much of it still establishing.
Port Kells and BridgeviewHeavier industrial closer to the river. Screen planting, buffers, and access that has to stay clear.

Residential and shared residential grounds are covered on the Surrey landscaping and Surrey landscape maintenance pages. Commercial work in neighbouring cities is on the Langley, Delta and Abbotsford pages.

What Is In Scope and What We Refer

What we refer out. Snow and ice clearing is not something we take on. Large tree removals and stump grinding go to a certified arborist or a removal contractor. We do not build retaining walls and we do not lay paving, so we work with the hardscape already on your site rather than changing it. A new irrigation install is a separate trade.

Pruning above what a ladder reaches is on the tree pruning page.

Surrey Commercial Landscaping Questions

If your site is being developed or redeveloped, that drawing is a permit requirement and your landscape architect produces it, with an estimate attached. We work to whatever has already been approved. An established property with no open file needs nothing of the kind for routine visits.

The City releases the security once the landscaping is installed to the approved plan and the installation is approved. Keeping the planting alive and the beds to the drawing is what stops deficiencies holding the file open. We cannot speak to the timing on your file, and the way these securities are calculated has been under review during 2026, so confirm the current steps with the City.

A WCB clearance and a certificate of insurance. Ask and we will send both before a crew is on site.

Most sites are weekly through the growing season and less often over winter. The rotation is written into the quote so your team knows which day to expect us.

Yes, and it is a good time to start. New planting needs water and attention through its first two summers, which is exactly when a site is most likely to lose plant.

Yes. We cover business park and industrial addresses across Surrey, including Campbell Heights in the south and Port Kells closer to the river.

No. Winter clearing is not a service we offer, so a property that needs it should have someone lined up before the season starts.

No. Neither one, and both are a separate trade. We look after the planting and the soft landscape, and leave the built structures as we find them.

Send the site address and we will walk it before quoting, so the scope matches the ground rather than a guess. If the site has an open permit, say so, because a file that is still waiting on approval is handled differently from an established property. You can also contact us first.
