Bark Mulch Installation in Delta, BC
Delta Is Three Communities, Not One Place
Ladner
A 19th century fishing village on the south arm of the Fraser, with the oldest gardens in the city and beds that are usually long since established. Most of the work here is an existing bed rather than a new one.
Tsawwassen
The closest part of Delta to open water, running from the Boundary Bay shoreline up onto English Bluff. Exposure changes noticeably inside the one community, which is the next section.
North Delta
The most populous of the three and the most suburban, on the north east side against Burns Bog and the Surrey boundary. Sheltered compared with the two southern communities.
The Beds Nearest the Water Take the Weather
What Is Included, and What Goes Elsewhere
- The beds measured before anything is ordered
- Bulk mulch delivered, barrowed in and spread by hand
- A clean edge cut where the bed meets lawn or path
- Exposed beds watered in rather than left dry on top
- Existing mulch broken up rather than buried
- Kept back from stems and off the hard surfaces
- Paths and the drive swept down before we leave
What goes to someone else. A bed that sits under water for part of the winter is not fixed by mulch, and we will say so rather than sell you a load that will rot down and sour. Drainage is a separate trade. We do not lay landscape fabric under mulch, and the longer explanation is on the Maple Ridge mulch page.
Choosing between the grades, and working out how many yards a bed needs, are both on the main bark mulch page. Low and wet beds have their own page at Pitt Meadows mulch. New beds from scratch are garden bed installation, and a seasonal clear before mulching is spring cleanup.

Delta Bark Mulch Questions
Yes. Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta are all in the service area, and so are the smaller pockets of housing in between. Mention which one you are in when you ring and the quote can account for it.
In one respect that matters. Tsawwassen runs down to the Boundary Bay shoreline and up onto English Bluff, so a lot of its beds face open water, while most North Delta beds sit inside a subdivision with houses and fences around them. An exposed bed needs watering in properly so the layer settles instead of sitting dry on top.
No. Extra depth is not what keeps mulch in place and it causes its own problems. We set depth from the bed itself, which is explained on our main bark mulch page, and put the effort into settling the layer and cutting a clean edge for it to sit behind.
That is a longer answer than this page should give, and it is set out grade by grade on our main bark mulch page. If material has been moving off your beds, ask us which grades hold together and which come apart.
Both, and they can be booked separately. The beds are measured before anything is ordered so you are not left with a pile on the drive. The two options are set out on our main bark mulch page.
Bulk mulch has to be ordered and brought in, so a few days of notice is normal. Ring and we will give you a date when we quote, not afterwards.
Not as a fix. Bark laid over ground that stays saturated will break down and turn sour instead of helping, and what needs solving is the drainage, which is a different trade. Low and wet beds are covered on our Pitt Meadows mulch page.
No, we leave it out, and there is a full explanation of the reasoning on our Maple Ridge mulch page.
