Splendid Landscaping is a professional landscaping company in White Rock, BC, providing landscape design, installation, lawn care and year round maintenance across White Rock, South Surrey, Crescent Beach and Ocean Park.
White Rock is not an easy place to landscape well, and most of the properties we take over show it. Salt carried in off the bay burns foliage that would be fine two kilometres inland. Exposed slopes shed water and topsoil every winter. Ocean view lots trade shelter for wind, and the plants that survive one of those conditions often fail the other two.
So we plan for the site before we plan the planting. Grade and drainage first, then wind and salt exposure, then a plant list that will still be there in five years. It is slower on paper and considerably cheaper than replanting a bed every second spring.
From compact city gardens near the promenade to sloped acreage above the bluff, we design, build and maintain the whole property.
Our designers start with how you actually use the outside of the house. Where the sun lands in the evening, where the wind comes from, what you want screened, and how much of the view you are willing to give up to get shelter.
Then the unglamorous part: grade, drainage, retaining where the slope needs it, and a planting plan chosen for salt and wind rather than for the nursery label.
You get a drawn plan and a written price. If you would rather build it in phases across a couple of seasons, we design it that way from the start so phase one does not have to come out to make phase two work.
Drawn plans, then built. Grade and drainage solved first.
Mowing, edging, aeration and lawn health monitoring.
Bed care, weeding, seasonal planting and pruning cycles.
Shaping, height control and shelter hedge maintenance.
Spring and fall cleanups with every bit of debris taken away.
Mulch refreshes, new bed installation, edging and soil preparation.
Three things make White Rock different from anywhere else we work, and all three kill planting that would be fine in Langley.
Salt. Onshore wind carries it further inland than people expect. It scorches leaf margins on anything not chosen for it, and the damage looks like drought or disease, so it usually gets treated as the wrong problem for a season or two first.
Wind. The lots with the best views have the least shelter. Young trees need staking longer here, and shelter planting has to go in before the feature planting it is meant to protect.
Slope. Much of White Rock falls toward the water. Water and topsoil leave with it every winter unless the grade is corrected and the planting holds the bank. Retaining is often cheaper than replacing the bed twice.
Spring and fall cleanups, overgrown property resets, and rental or pre sale tidy ups. Beds cleared and edged, leaves off the lawn before they mat down, shrubs cut back, and every bit of green waste taken with us the same day.
On the exposed lots there is usually more debris than owners expect after a winter of onshore wind, so we price it on site rather than over the phone.
Our guide to a fall yard cleanup covers the order of operations if you would rather tackle it yourself.
No guesswork, no vague estimates, no pressure. Design is quoted separately from installation so you can decide how far to take it, and maintenance is priced as a programme rather than per visit.
Our guides to typical landscaping rates and which elements cost the most set out what drives the numbers.
We do not make this complicated.
01
We walk the property, look at exposure, grade and drainage, and give you a clear written price. No guesswork and no vague estimates.
02
Every White Rock property is different. We build a plan for your site and the BC seasons, so you know exactly what is happening and when.
03
We do the work and you enjoy the result. For maintenance clients that means a property that always looks its best without you thinking about it.
The work changes noticeably within a few blocks here. Properties near the promenade and the bluff take the full weight of the salt and wind, while lots further back in South Surrey behave much more like the rest of the Fraser Valley.
If you are just outside these areas, call and we will tell you honestly whether we can keep to a schedule for you.
Landscape design and installation, lawn care and mowing, year round garden maintenance, hedge trimming and tree pruning, spring and fall yard cleanups, bark mulch and garden bed installation. Design can be bought on its own if you want to build it yourself or use your own contractor.
Design is quoted separately from installation, and maintenance is priced as an annual programme rather than per visit. Slope and access matter more here than lot size, because getting equipment and material onto a banked property takes longer. We quote on site in writing. Our guides to typical rates and which elements cost the most cover what drives the numbers.
Ones chosen for salt and wind rather than for the label. Onshore wind carries salt further inland than people expect and it scorches leaf margins on anything unsuited to it. We select for exposure first, then for the look you want, which is the opposite order to how most planting plans get drawn.
It is the most common condition we work with here, and it is manageable. The issue is water and topsoil leaving the site every winter. That is solved with grade correction, drainage, and planting or retaining that holds the bank. Retaining is often cheaper than replacing a washed out bed twice.
Both. Plenty of clients start with a design or a single cleanup with nothing to sign, then move onto a maintenance programme once the property is where they want it.
Yes. We run routes through White Rock, Ocean Park, Crescent Beach, Elgin, Grandview Heights, Morgan Creek and Sunnyside, and further into Surrey, Langley and Delta.
Fifteen years in the South Fraser, and we are members of the BC Landscape and Nursery Association. Crews are fully insured and WorkSafeBC covered, and you get the same crew on your property rather than whoever is free.
Design work is best done over winter so the build can start as soon as the ground opens up. Planting windows are spring and early autumn. Maintenance and cleanups can start at any point in the season.
Yes, on contracted programmes with reporting. That work is covered on our commercial and strata landscaping page.
