HEDGE TRIMMING IN ALDERGROVE, BC

Hedge Trimming in Aldergrove, BC

Hedges cut to shape across Aldergrove, either side of the line: the Township of Langley part and the Abbotsford part. Where a boundary hedge has pasture behind it, the clippings leave with us rather than sitting in a pile.

A Hedge on a Pasture Boundary Is a Different Job

Aldergrove is the farming end of the Township, and it changes what a boundary hedge is for. In a subdivision a hedge is screening. Out on the rural roads it is often doing the work of a fence as well, with pasture on one side and a road or a neighbour on the other.
Three things follow from that, and none of them come up on a city frontage.

The clippings do not stay

Yew is documented as poisonous to livestock, and cherry laurel carries hydrogen cyanide. Whatever the hedge turns out to be, a pile of fresh clippings within reach of stock is not something to leave behind, so ours go on the truck.

Stock open up the base

Animals lean on a boundary hedge, push through the gaps and browse what they can reach. The result is a hedge that is tight on top and open at the bottom, which is the opposite of how one grows on a garden fence line.

The runs are long

An acreage boundary is measured in hundreds of feet, not in metres of frontage. We price by the run and say up front how many visits a year it will actually take, because one cut a season on that length is usually not enough.

To be plain about the limits of that first point: we are not identifying what is in your hedge and we are not giving veterinary advice. We remove what we cut, which is the part that is ours to control. If you are worried about what is growing on a boundary your animals reach, that is a question for your vet or an agrologist, not for a landscaper.

Aldergrove Is in Two Municipalities

Worth knowing before you ring anyone. Aldergrove is a community in the Township of Langley, but it does not stop at the Township line: the eastern part sits inside the City of Abbotsford, recorded as Aldergrove East. One community, two municipalities, and the split runs through the middle of it.
For the hedge itself this changes nothing. Cedar grows the same on both sides of a survey line. What it does change is who you ask about anything official, so if a question comes up about what is permitted at your address, check with the municipality your address is actually in rather than with us.

The rest of the picture is farmland. Aldergrove sits at the east end of the Township along Fraser Highway, runs south to 0 Avenue and the border crossing, and has Aldergrove Lake off to the southeast. We work the residential streets around 264th and the acreages on the roads between them.

What the Job Covers, and What It Does Not

What we do not do. We do not work within reach of overhead service lines. A hedge growing into the drop to a house needs a crew qualified to work near live conductors, and we will say so rather than take it on. That is our own rule, not a quote of anyone else’s.

We do not take trees down, grind stumps, or reach anything higher than a platform safely gets to. Weed killer is not something we use at all. Ornamental pruning of specimen trees is tree pruning, and if a hedge has been left long enough that it needs reducing rather than trimming, that is a bigger job and the main hedge trimming page sets out what it involves.

Hedge Trimming Across Aldergrove

The residential streets around 264th and the town centre off Fraser Highway, the acreages on the rural roads north and south of it, the properties running down toward 0 Avenue, and Aldergrove East over the line in Abbotsford. The longer the boundary, the more the schedule matters.
Hedge trimming in neighbouring places is on the Abbotsford, Langley and Surrey pages, and our areas served page covers the whole service area. What a trim includes and how often a hedge needs one are on the main hedge trimming page.

Aldergrove Hedge Trimming Questions

Yes, all of them, and they never go over a ditch edge. That water is a primary irrigation source for farmland here, and cuttings raked into it catch on a culvert and become the City’s problem.

Yes. We set up on whichever side holds weight, and we do not put a ladder on a sloping bank. If one face cannot be reached safely you will hear that before you get a price, not afterwards.

We take out what is reachable and sever the canes low where it is not. Expect it to push back in from whatever is growing behind the hedge, so where something is growing behind it treat this as an ongoing item rather than a one time repair.

It depends on the hedge. A laurel or cedar screen usually wants more than one cut across a growing season if you want a crisp face, and one if you are happy with a softer outline. Boxwood and slower mixed hedges need less.

If the other side of your hedge is their property, we ask before stepping onto it. Where that is not possible we cut from your side and the top and tell you what the back face will look like.

Yes, and both municipalities. The Township of Langley part and Aldergrove East over in Abbotsford are the same run for us. Give us the address and we will work out which is which.

No, that is arborist work and we will point you to one. The same applies to stumps, and to anything higher than a platform can safely reach.

No, spraying is not part of a hedge trim. Anything we clear around the base is done by hand.
